Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo’s astonishing notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Walter Isaacson weaves a narrative that connects his art to his science. He shows how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy. He produced the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and technology. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry. His ability to stand at the crossroads of the humanities and the sciences, made iconic by his drawing of Vitruvian Man, made him history’s most creative genius
CSS candidates are required to produce essays in accordance with certain expectations of the paper setter which are mentioned on top of the essay question paper. Essays contained in this book help you to come up to the expectations of the examiner to get highest possible marks. To start with, one of his requirements is “exposition” which means that you should try to reveal and discuss maximum relevant aspects of the topic. A half-hearted and sketchy dealing of some of its imperatives will not serve the purpose. Then comes his demand concerning “argumentation” i.e. whenever you make a point do not forget to establish its identity by to uphold or discard it by genuine and forceful arguments. Further wherever you raise a question or come across a controversial situation do have a few arguments for and against the proposition. While doing so give your own point of view as well. Discuss alternatives with arguments to sift right from the wrong or accept the right and reject the wrong. Next comes “description” which implies giving a vivid account of the situation under discussion. It demands presentation of all relevant details clearly and convincingly. Description is followed by “Narration” which means moving ahead vigorously. Candidates who are short of ideas often indulge in tail-spinning, beating about the bush, or moving in circles just to fill up as many pages of the answer book as possible. Narrative demands smooth and logical flow of ideas, moving from one thought to the next effortlessly. A stuck up expression results in loss of interest and lands the reader in a state of drudgery.

Only informed interpretations of world conditions and trend trajectories and cogent explanations of why they exist and how they unfold an provide the tools necessary for understanding the world and making it better. Essentials of International Relations By Kanwal Batool Naqvi & Zahid Aziz. By presenting k leading ideas and the latest information available, World Politics: Trend and Transformation provides the tools necessary for understanding world affairs in the present epoch of history, for probable developments, and for thinking critically about the potential long-term W of those on countries and individuals across the globe. World Politics: Trend and Transformation aims to put both changes and continuities into guspective. It provides a picture of the evolving relations among all transnational actors, the historical developments that affect those actors’ relationships, and the salient contemporary flbal trends that those interactions produce. The major theories scholars use to explain the dynamics underlying international relations — realism, liberalism, and constructivism, as well as and radical interpretatio_ns — frame the investigation. That said, this book resists the Illustration to oversimplify world politics with a superficial_ treatment that would rnask ainplexities and distort realities. Moreover, the text refuses to substitute mere subjective opinion it information based on evidence and purposefully presents clashing and contending views so II students have a chance to critically evaluate the opposed positions and construct their own figments about key issues. It fosters critical thinking by repeatedly asking students to assess the‘ possibilities for the global future and its potential impact on their own lives. ‘Pakistan & World Affairs’ is a unique addition to the perspectives on Pakistan and an invaluable contribution to understanding and analysis of the history and policies of the country and the issues that confront it. The book covers a vast spectrum and is a veritable compendium of significant events and policy matters discussed and analyzed by Shamshad Ahmad, an eminent practitioner of diplomacy who served in highest positions of responsibility and policy making, and of representing Pakistan. The book provides insights available to very few in the country and is a treasure trove of information based on personal experience and meticulous research that will surely inspire.further discussion and clear understanding of our past and contemporary challenges. With its serious and balanced tone, the book is a refreshing departure from the current discourse on politics and world affairs in the country that is becoming increasingly polarized, polemical and noisier. The opening chapter on historical background testifies to an open and inclusive point of view opted by the author for his narrative and critique. He reclaims Pakistan’s past when it was the cradle of two of famed civilizations of antiquity. At the time of independence we saw ourselves as a new country but an ancient land and part of the continuing story of human civilization. It was only much later that an influential segment of the society sought to disown ‘our pre-Islamic heritage which only breeds prejudice and narrow-mindedness. Shamshad effort is a ,welcome reminder to open our minds. The book has an incredible spread and beyond history its. twelve ‘chapters dwell on as diverse issues as international politics, globalization, nuclear issues, the malaise afflicting the Muslim world, economy, state craft and social issues. Yet there is a coherence in their relevance to the challenges Pakistan faces internally and aexternally.
